Each week we talk about the world of mortgage broken, but we also talk about mindset, habits, and the realities of being self-employed. Because when you're self-employed, when you work for yourself, the biggest challenges are very rarely technical, they're normally more internal. And last week we talked about self-doubt and how it how it's often the reason habits fail. Not because people don't care, not because they're lazy, but because the voice in your head starts questioning everything. Is it worth it? Is it really working? I'm actually cut out for this. And once that habit shows up, momentum starts to wobble. And today is that natural follow-up to that conversation because when self-doubt appears, the next thing most people start searching for is motivation. And that's where a lot of people get stuck. And self-doubt and self-motivation are connected, they're not opposites, they work alongside each other. Self-doubt never actually goes away. You need to accept that it doesn't disappear when you become motivated. It just becomes something that you learn to move forward with. Self-motivation isn't about silencing the voice in your head, it's about showing up despite of it. And that's a big change because most people wait until they feel confident or inspired before they take action, before they act. And that's where progress stalls. And motivation is unreliable. That is the uncomfortable truth. Motivation is emotional, it's inconsistent, it quickly fades. And if you rely on motivation, you'll always be starting again, especially in January. And this is the big time you get that early push, the fresh start of energy, and then real life kicks in, work gets busy, maybe results aren't quite what you expected, and suddenly you're wondering why you don't feel like it anymore. And that's not failure, that's just how motivation works. There is a myth that some people are naturally self-motivated. They're not. That is the truth as well. They've just learned how to stop negotiating with themselves. They don't ask themselves, do I feel motivated today? They just ask, is this what I'm committed to doing? And that shift removes emotion from the equation. And emotion is where most people get stuck. So where does real self-motivation come from? It doesn't come from hype or quotes you read on LinkedIn or pressure. It comes from evidence. Evidence that you've showed up even when it's boring. You follow through when no one's watching. You keep promises to yourself, even the small ones. And every time you do what you said you're gonna do, you build trust with yourself. And that trust becomes motivation. Not loud motivation, but quiet, steady motivation. And the kind that kind that actually lasts. So why habits matter more than feelings? Well, and this is why habits are so powerful because habits don't rely on how you feel, they rely on what you've decided in advance. So when self-doubt shows up, habits keep you moving. When motivation dips, habits carry you forward. You don't need belief every single day. You just need consistency. And consistency is built when action becomes non-negotiable. So what about self-motivation as a self-employed person? If you're self-employed, this matters more than ever. There's no boss, there's no manager, there's no one checking in, there's no one chasing you, there's no one micromanaging you. Freedom is brilliant. I love freedom, but it requires responsibility. The ability to move motivate yourself quietly, without drama, without the hype is one of the most important skills you will ever build. And it's built through repetition, not inspiration. So if motivation feels low right now, don't overthink it. It's common. Three weeks into January, it is so common. But what you can do right now is go back to that one habit, that one small action, one promise you can keep today to yourself. And ask yourself what would someone who's serious about this do, even if they don't feel like it, and just do that. That's how momentum restarts. So let's just bring that all together.
