How To Turn Your 2026 Vision Into A Practical, Flexible Plan
Planning doesn’t start on January 1; it starts the moment you decide what matters. We close out 2025 by turning a clear vision for 2026 into a plan you can actually follow, weaving together revenue goals, referral growth, and client focus with family time, self-care, and real rest. You’ll hear how to define what “winning” looks like next year, then break it into quarterly and monthly milestones supported by simple habit tracking, honest reviews, and a not-to-do list that frees the hours you need for deep work.
We dig into practical systems that keep you on track without burning you out: shorter meetings with built-in buffers, pre-booked holidays and mental health days, and recurring review sessions that steer your course before problems compound. We also make space for the meaningful intangibles—side projects, learning, and hobbies that boost creativity and confidence even when they don’t fit neatly on a spreadsheet. Gratitude threads through it all: celebrating small wins, thanking the people who lift you up, and writing three things you’re grateful for to shift your focus toward momentum.
Flexibility is the throughline. Business is unpredictable, brokerage is unpredictable, and life certainly is, so we share how to design a plan that breathes: clear goals, adaptable schedules, and the mindset to respond rather than react. Along the way, we reflect on five years of the Mortgage Broker Broadcast, the guests who shared AI, mindset, and frontline insights, and the growing community whose questions shape every conversation. Subscribe, share this with a colleague who needs a smarter 2026 plan, and leave a quick review so more brokers can find these strategies. What’s the first habit you’ll lock into your calendar?

Hello and welcome to the final installment of our Set Yourself Up for 2026 miniseries and the final episode of the Mortgage Broker broadcast for 2025. I'm your host, Craig Skelton. And over the past three weeks, we've talked about defining your vision and values, reflecting on 2025 and building habits and time blocking systems. And today we're bringing that all together. As we wrap up the year, celebrate this year's sorry, celebrate this podcast's five-year journey, and look ahead to 2026. We're going to look at designing a plan that merges your vision with practical planning. I'll share how to plan your year now rather than wait until the 1st of January, how to balance personal and professional goals, and why gratitude and rest are just as important as being busy. But before we get into it, just take a moment to reflect on the past year. Identify what moved you forward, what really propelled you towards your goals, and what held you back were the projects that ignited your passion, like relationships that supported your growth, mistakes that taught you valuable lessons. Use these insights to create a more strategic and focused plan for the year ahead. Next, understand that your professional and personal goals deserve their own space. Don't just lump them all together. Work goals such as revenue targets or expanding your referral network will differ totally from your personal ones like family time or self-care. You need yet they need to work in tandem because you've only got 24 hours in a day. Be kind to yourself when you plan and be realistic about the time you can devote to each area. So, how do you design your plan for 2026? The first thing is start with your vision and smart goals. Picture where you want to be by the 31st of December 2026. Then break that down, break that vision into key activities and achievements. Create SMART goals. For example, it could be increase your remortgage revenue by 15% by creating content in that area. And say two new referral partners by quarter by quarter three or meditate for 10 minutes every single morning. Understand what those goals are and then break them into quarterly, monthly milestones and then track them. It's so important to track them. Use a habit tracker can help you stay accountable. Can also create a not-to-do list. Eliminating unproductive tasks is as important as adding new goals. Create a not-to-do list to identify and delegate tasks that drain your time. For instance, you could be stop spending hours on admin when you can outsource it, free up that time for client relationships and strategic planning. Delegating these tasks can also provide growth opportunities for you and your business. It's also as well about routine and structure. Establish a routine by scheduling with recurring tasks and planning big events early. Book out time for quarterly reviews, monthly reviews. These sessions help you stay on track and adjust your plan if you're ahead or behind on where you need to be. Add personal time to your calendar, like holidays, mental health days, or hours reserved for hobbies and interests. Don't be the person that boasts about not having a holiday for the past five years or whatever the case may be. Need to take that time, rest and recovery, improve performance and prevent burnout. You also can look at side projects and hobbies too. Include like side projects or a passion into your plan. It could be anything at all, anything that you've like learning a new skill. It doesn't really matter what it is, but side projects and hobbies encourage creativity, self-development, and confidence. Not everything meaningful can be measured. So embrace activities that you want to do, that you enjoy, and also help your personal growth. And then celebrate the wins and cultivate gratitude. Commit to celebrating your achievements no matter how small they are, each milestone brings you closer to your goal. Take time to acknowledge progress and express gratitude for the people who support you. Write down three things you're grateful for every single day to shift your focus from what's missing to what's working. It's also important to leave space and stay flexible. Life is unpredictable. Running a business is unpredictable. Being a broker is unpredictable. So build space into your well-organized plan. Shorter meetings to avoid back-to-back overload and set reminders for breaks. Remember, you can't control every single outcome, but you can control your reactions, your attitude shapes, how you tackle tasks and respond to unexpected changes. A flexible plan helps you adapt calmly when circumstances shift and they will certainly shift. Involve your team if you've got one in your decisions, their ideas may surprise you. So as we close the year, I just wanted to thank everyone who's been part of the Mortgage Broker broadcast.
